Cosmeticsinfo.org and thought I would share it with you! (Click on the "Importance of Preservatives" video on the right hand side.) Even though the mould appears in splotches on day 8, there's a lot of contamination going on that we can't see in the days beforehand.
Yes, I know some people will argue you can keep products in the fridge to ensure longer periods of freshness, but do you want to take that chance? I mean, day 8? What's going on days 6 or 7?
I know it would be lovely to make "all natural" or preservative-free products, but when you consider that adding as little as 0.1% to a creation can avoid THE GREEN ICK OF DOOM, is it worth the stress and headaches of checking your lotion every day to check for obvious contamination? Compare putting 0.5% liquid Germall Plus in 100 grams of lotion (so you're using 0.05% for every 10 grams of lotion, which is a lot to use in a dose!) versus spreading bacteria, mould, and yeast on your skin. Is it really worth avoiding preservatives?
