Presents for bath & body crafters!

With all the running around I've been doing running various groups, trying to get my own crafting done, and finishing up the lotion book, I didn't get time to write the post I wanted to on disodium cocoamphodiacetate, so I thought I'd put together this list...

Crafty types can be hard to buy presents for as we can make pretty much anything we want (although I still haven't figured out how to crochet an Xbox 360 game!) People can't really buy us those gift baskets filled with lotions and bubble baths because the first thing we do is turn it over, look at the ingredients, and make comments about what surfactants or oils we'd use instead. It's hard for our loved ones to know exactly which butters and oils we really want, and it's hard to give someone a list with C12-15 alkyl benzoate on it and expect them to know where to find it!

Here are a few ideas for the bath & body crafter in your life. The good thing is that you can never have enough of these items!

  • Pyrex jugs - even though I have 2 in every size, I could use more!
  • Spoons - a 25 pack from a local restaurant supply store will do nicely.
  • Funnels - I generally need about 40 of these, but 6 in different sizes will do just fine.
  • An apron - I'm constantly wiping my hands on my clothes - it's such a bad habit! - and this will protect my favourite Dalek stencilled shirt.
  • An easy to use paper towel rack - something I can use with one hand while balancing a jug in the other.
  • Spatulae - I can never have enough spatulae, and I would love to have more of the fancy ones and fewer of the dollar store stiff as a board ones!
  • Somewhere I can store my bottles and not take up too much room. But I think this one's just a fantasy because they're just so hard to store!

What crafty goodness have you asked Santa for this year?

What an utterly brilliant post, Susan ... and I'm so glad I'm not the only spoilsport who does that to the (vastly inferior to my own!) toiletries gifts I still occasionally receive. My daughters have banned me from "mum's ingredient speech" on gifts they receive ... and I'm not allowed near their bathroom shelves ...

When I started off in soapmaking, oddly I started getting MORE soap as a gift because "I know you are interested in soap". Still, I do now have a kind of museum of weird and wonderful soaps, including those amazing hand-carved Thai lotuses ...

So, I'm going to follow your example and ask my Nearest and Dearest for the new scales I've been lusting after and thought were too extravagant, and some anti-ageing white lupin peptides I've been longing to try!

Well done on the Lotions e-book - maybe I'll ask for that too ... oh, and definitely pyrex jugs!

I would definitely love a new craft room with sinks and tons of storage space!

Oooh....well, I was browsing a wonderful silicone mould and soap stamp site and hubby was looking over my shoulder ~ guess what he is getting me for Christmas?! ;)

I asked for some more soap tube molds, and some candle making stuff. Having said that, the one company I'm always to have lotion and potion gifts from is Lush. I guess buying stuff from them far to often, partly inspired me to get into making things. I do spend quite a lot of time trying to work out how to recreate some of the things they make! (Double gift there, nice bath stuff/lotion AND a puzzle game!)
